Rosa Sheehan Psychotherapy

Accredited CBT Therapist (BABCP) & Accredited EMDR Therapist (EMDR UK)

About

Rosa Sheehan

I am an accredited CBT and EMDR therapist with nearly 20 years' experience working within NHS mental health services across primary and secondary care.

Throughout my career, I have supported people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and low self-esteem.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and practical. I believe therapy should offer both a safe space to explore difficult experiences and evidence-based tools that help create meaningful and lasting change.

I have a particular interest in trauma-focused work and use CBT and EMDR to help people process difficult experiences that continue to affect their lives in the present.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps identify and change patterns of thinking and behaviour that may be contributing to emotional difficulties.

CBT focuses on understanding how thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours interact, helping you develop practical strategies for overcoming challenges and improving wellbeing.

CBT Can Help You:

• Understand how your difficulties have developed and what may be maintaining them

• Develop healthier coping strategies

• Challenge self-critical or unhelpful thinking patterns

• Reduce anxiety and avoidance

• Improve confidence and self-esteem

• Build resilience and emotional wellbeing

• Process traumatic experiences through Trauma-Focused CBT where appropriate

CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, OCD, panic disorder, PTSD, psychosis, health anxiety, and many other common mental health difficulties.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help people recover from trauma and distressing life experiences.

When difficult experiences remain unprocessed, they can continue to affect how we think, feel, and respond in everyday life. EMDR helps the brain process these experiences, allowing them to become less emotionally overwhelming and reducing their impact on current functioning.

EMDR is recommended by NICE for the treatment of PTSD and trauma-related difficulties.

Many people find EMDR helpful when difficult experiences continue to affect them through anxiety, distressing memories, emotional reactions, feelings of shame or guilt, or negative beliefs about themselves.

EMDR May Help With:

• Trauma and PTSD

• Childhood experiences and developmental trauma

• Anxiety linked to past experiences

• Distressing memories

• Low self-esteem linked to earlier life experiences

• Panic and emotional overwhelm
